02/18/2004 Archived Entry: "plans gone awry"

Today was all about changing plans. Tabitha and I didn't go to class this morning because I felt a week off from her friends was in order. The girls are just being too disruptive in class. Last week, Tabitha told me she was going to sit in the back, away from her friends that she gets into trouble with. True to her word, she did not sit in the front. But then all of her friends surrounded her and formed a solid line in the middle of the room. To top it off, none of the other children would then sit in front of them and our instructor had to move her chair forward so all the girls were still the front row. So, this week, we stayed home. It ended up raining anyway, so that just confirmed that it was a good decision.

We were supposed to go out to lunch with my mil, but she cancelled about 15 minutes before we were going to pick her up. So just the three of us headed out instead. After lunch we hit the dollar store and then stopped at Toys R Us. Now we went there just to buy a birthday gift. But we found some of the Great Adventurers toys that Tabitha didn't have. It's a discontinued Fisher Price line so when we're lucky enough to find ones that she doesn't have, they are usually marked way down. True to form, the two we found today were marked down. Then Tabitha found a Powerpuff Girls video for $3.99, so we couldn't pass that up. At this point our total was just over $20.00 and I had a coupon for $5.00 of a $25.00 purchase so I also picked up a My Little Pony.

Once we got home, Tabitha went to work. We have recently stated that we would not buy her any more toys. She had to purchase them with her allowance from now on. 'Course, I have a weakness when it comes to buying toys so this can lead to a problem. What we decided for today, since I chose to buy the toys and they weren't something Tabitha decided to spend her money on, was that Tabitha could do work around the house to earn the toys. So she cleared off the dining room table and then washed it down. She had to pick up all her stuff from the dining room and living room, and then completely straightened up her room and the playroom. She worked for a good 45 minutes to an hour on all of this and did a really good job. She didn't even know about the pony so she thought she did all that work just for the Adventurer toys.

My mil was going to be alone tonight, so we all went out to dinner together and then we stopped at Staples on the way home. Now, we're all going to sit down for Family Movie Night and watch Lion King 1 1/2.
