I woke up with a Nyquil hangover, as Chris calls it, and spent most of the morning feeling kind of fuzzy. I hate taking meds, but also hate coughing all night instead of sleeping, which is why I took Nyquil cough last night. BIG mistake that I won't be repeating tonight, I'd rather cough.
So the morning seemed to be over before it began. We took Chris to work after lunch and then went straight to Tabitha's riding lesson. She was very, very talkative with her trainer. I mean, the child talks a lot, that's not news, but she was really chattering today. I guess a fresh set of ears was appealing. After her lesson we headed to the bookstore. I was looking for a specific book for myself and could not find a single one by the author I wanted. So we spent quite a bit time in Tabitha's section. I did find the coolest thing: Mad Libs Jr. You may remember from your childhood that regular Mad Libs requires knowledge of the parts of speech. My child does not yet have this knowledge. So the Jr. version has a symbol under each blank space and also a list of words. Like when an adjective is needed, there is a happy face under the blank line. So the child just looks at the column with a happy face on top and chooses which word they want. Tabitha is going to love it! Since I didn't get a book, I let Tabitha pick out 3 books instead of just two like usual. She chose a Powerpuff Girls chapter book and has already read 3 chapters since we got home. She also chose a Return to Neverland chapter book, though that one looks a bit advanced to me but she insisted she'd enjoy it. Lastly she chose a My Little Pony book and I was pleasantly surprised to find that a Pony Point comes on the back of the book. We've already sent in enough points to get a free video and I think Tabitha is saving for a free Pony next. Lastly, I picked out a reading comprehension workbook. I was leaning towards Spectrums grade level 2 book, but ended up with the Gifted and Talented Reading workbook for ages 4-6. I liked this one because it encourages logical thinking. I probably should have got the one for ages 6-8, but they didn't have it in stock (the link is actually to the 6-8 book, I couldn't find one for the one I bought). I'll look again next time. This line of books is not for children who are gifted and talented, rather "To develop your child's gifts and talents" as per the cover. I saw a Science curriculum I liked too, but held off since I was getting so many other books.
After the book store we stopped at Baskin Robbins because I had a hankering for chocolate and peanut butter ice cream, yum! Once home, Tabitha read some of her book and then made a to-do list for tomorrow, though I don’t know why. After that it was time to go to drawing class. Unfortunately, Tabitha crimped her finger in her door so we had to stop getting ready to sooth the hurt, give hugs and wipe the tears. We made it to class okay though, and the hurt finger was on her left hand so it wasn't going to affect her drawing.
Speaking of her drawing class, I'm less than pleased with it. It just does not match the catalog description and isn't what I was hoping for. Tabitha actually shows a modicum of talent in drawing and I'd like to encourage that, but neither I nor Chris are artistic. We may have to bite the financial bullet and get her into the classes at a local art studio. We'll see.
